During 1982, Petherbridge was artist in residence at the City Art Gallery in Manchester and celebrated the many Victorian buildings that were then being done-up in the city. This was also the year of the Falklands War, reflected in the large-scale black & white drawings, Theatre of War and Debris of War. Drawings commenting on war continued to be made in 1984 and were exhibited in the touring exhibition Geometry of Rage.
